I was making dinner the other day with “Only You” by the Platters playing in the background. I sent up a prayer of thanks to God for old music. It wasn’t exactly praise music but I praised Him for it anyways. Even if music is not Christian music, I think it can be a gift from God. Oldies are basically the sound track of my college years. I was dating my husband all through my college years; he was at one college and I was at another. So when my last class got out on Fridays my routine was to walk as fast as I could to my car, get on the highway for the two hour drive home, and blast oldies from my radio for the whole two hours. It was a great part of the week. It was the drive that led me home to my boyfriend and family and led me away from the stress of school. As the miles passed behind me, so did the memories of tests, reports, and lab experiments. By the time I got to the exit of my parents’ house, long gone were the stresses of college for 48 wonderful hours. That music accompanied me home every weekend during the last half of the 90s.
I know that God was with me those two hours home every weekend. I also think that He gave me that music to make me feel not so alone. God gives us blessings every day. Blessings can come in many different forms. They come in the form of other people that bless our lives, they come in the form of beautiful sunsets that remind us of His glory, and they can come in the form of miracles like the one that happened to me in 2010. God’s blessings are all around us. We are so busy that most of His blessings He gives us probably go unrecognized. God is taking care of and blessing us even when we do not realize it. I pray that we may have time to look around us and see the blessings He has given us and recognize that they came directly from heaven to our doorstep: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights” (James 1:17).
How about you? What blessings has God given you in your life that maybe you didn’t realize were blessings at first? I would love to hear about God’s grace and the blessings He has given you.
