My favorite time of day is during the time when we are reading to my son at bedtime. I love this time of day for a number of reasons. The first reason is that it is the most relaxed part of the day when we are not in a hurry to do anything and we are just enjoying the time together. Another reason why I love it so much is that it tends to be the time when we get into cute discussions and his voice is so cute and he tends to be very giggly at night. I think another reason why I love that time is because we sit on his bed and just have the little Lightning McQueen lamp on by his bed. The room is lit just enough to read. I just realized how much softer, cozier, and prettier lamplight is than ceiling lights. That got me thinking about another lamplight that I know…
The Bible says that His Word “is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). His Word guides our paths with light and shines lamplight on our feet. I can imagine the most beautifully shining, glistening, soft light the world will ever know lighting our feet down the path He has lit for us to follow. The other paths end up dark and gloomy and the lack of light is evident. Oh, if only we would always choose the path He lit for us. “Lord, help us to choose the path you have lit for us, in Jesus’ name, amen.”
The path He lit for me is the only one I ever want to look at. Since the Bible says that His Word is a lamp onto my feet, then I will study His word to keep my feet lit with the Scripture so that the path I am on is the one God has blessed for me. His Word heals us according to Psalm 107:20: “He sent His word and healed them.” His words are “life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh” (Proverbs 4:22). God sent the Scriptures for us. The Scriptures are one of the ways we can know what God wants for our lives. The Scriptures are God’s words to us that we can read over and over to try to know Him more. The Bible is such a wonderful gift. Just like the warm, cozy lamplight in my son’s room, I pray that we all feel the warmth of His Word that He sent so that we can know Him more.
